Quew Sticks are usually just a random item that happened to be handy.

Designed, Quew Sticks are made to either let the target know that they've been Quewed of to tell others that they have been Quewed.

Ones that are designed to let the target know ether cause a sudden pain like stubbing your toe or a slowly growing pain like having cinnamon/ hot souse on your skin.

Ones designed to single the Quew to other are using designed to remove something the target is wearing.

Usually the Highest Quew is giving back, before they have finished licking their wounds from the battle, a (repaired) object that the one has removed during battle.

The highest form of respect a feral can show/be shown is for an item to removed in a Quew to be given to one of the target's kōhai so that the kōhai can return it to the target. This can be tricky as the best if for the Kohai to repair the item but if the Kohai can't get the item fixed then it's a major faux pas for one trying to show respect.

The reason it's given to one of the Target's Kohai is so the Kohai can show their appreciation of the Senpai and gain status by returning the object
