Yiffiverse:The Other Dark
“Man lives in the sunlit world of what he believes to be reality. But... there is, unseen by most, an underworld... a place that is just as real, but not as brightly lit. A darkside.”
“The Other Dark is a dimension that is a dark reflection, or echo, of our world. It is a place of decay and death, a plane out of phase, a place with monsters. It is right next to you and you don’t even see it.”
The Other Dark is separated from our reality by a thin and fraying Membrane; monsters and psychic effluvia seep through gaps in this Membrane, resulting in supernatural horror.
The Membrane is especially weak in places where hopelessness and suffering hold sway; cultists and lunatics seek to manipulate such conditions
The Other Dark is made from the bones and gristle of the Theiko Meli that the gods don't bother with.
In The Other Dark the Material Plane is known as The Twilight, for our dim light of happiness that is everywhere but the sun is nowhere to be seen.
The monsters of The Other Dark that are strong enough to bear the constant light of The Twilight and move there to avoid the Foteino Kai Evgeniko of The Other Dark are known as Skotos.
At it's best it is the Twilight Zone, at it's worst it it the Upside Down from Stranger Things.

The Other Dark[edit]
“Man lives in the sunlit world of what he believes to be reality. But... there is, unseen by most, an underworld... a place that is just as real, but not as brightly lit. A darkside.” — *Tales from the Darkside*
Overview[edit]
The Other Dark is a shadow dimension—a decaying echo of our reality that exists just out of phase, unseen but ever-present. It is a realm of decay, memory, and monsters, bordered by a fraying Membrane that separates it from the world of light.
- It mirrors our world through distortion, grief, and suppressed emotion.
- It is closest wherever hopelessness, suffering, and psychic anguish thrive.
- The dimension is constructed from the **bones and gristle of Theiko Meli—the forgotten strata of the Yiffiverse, abandoned by gods.
Nature of the Membrane[edit]
The **Membrane** is the fragile veil that separates reality from the Other Dark.
- In areas of intense trauma or despair, the Membrane weakens.
- Psychic effluvia and corrupted emotion seep across dimensions.
- Entities and fragments of the Other Dark can breach this layer—often resulting in supernatural horror.
Cultists and lunatics seek to deliberately thin the Membrane, believing the Other Dark holds truth, rebirth… or power.
Philosophical Structure[edit]
The Other Dark is not inherently evil. It is misunderstood, a dimension of suppressed potential.
Key Concepts[edit]
- “The light shines brightest in the dark”
- Weak goodness cannot survive here—it must become resilient or perish. Kindness here is tempered into strength.
- Halflings & Spiritual Ecology
- Created by halflings, the Other Dark is not a prison, but a place for lost elements of people: grief, maladaptive traits, forgotten joys.
- They reflect concepts from:
- Buddhism’s Upaya (skillful means)
- Lilo & Stitch’s “One True Place”
Halflings are not reformers—they are recontextualizers. They see everything in its place. Even monstrosity can belong.
Inhabitants & Realms[edit]
Many legendary worlds exist within the Other Dark:

Fantastica | The NeverEnding Story | Imaginative reality |
