The Other Dark is separated from our reality by a thin and fraying Membrane; monsters and psychic effluvia seep through gaps in this Membrane, resulting in supernatural horror.
The Membrane is especially weak in places where hopelessness and suffering hold sway; cultists and lunatics seek to manipulate such conditions
The Other Dark is made from the bones and gristle of the Theiko Meli that the gods don't bother with.
In The Other Dark the Material Plane is known as The Twilight, for our dim light of happiness that is everywhere but the sun is nowhere to be seen.
The monsters of The Other Dark that are strong enough to bear the constant light of The Twilight and move there to avoid the Foteino Kai Evgeniko of The Other Dark are known as Skotos.
At it's best it is the Twilight Zone, at it's worst it it the Upside Down from Stranger Things.
The light shines brightest is the dark
The goodness of the Other Dark is stronger than that outside it, for weak goodness ether gets destroyed or tempered by it's constant gloom.
Both heroes and villains have there place in the story.
While the world sees the OtherDark as a place of darkness of Horrors and imagine it to be the work of some grate evil, it is made by the Halflings from the lost and suppressed elements of people.
mirror everything from Budhism's concept of "skillful means" (upaya) to Lilo & Stitch: The Series's "One True Place" the halflingsdo not see thing and acceptable or needing to be destroyed, but as in harmony with it's environment or as maladaptive or out of place
Not only Downworld(The Odyssey) and Jareth's Labyrinth(Jim Henson's Labyrint) live in the OtherDark but so too does Fantastica(Neverending Story)
