“You can get out of the atmosphere on the back of a roc.”

Fantasy flying creatures can fly to other planets. At least, they can in my world. And now they can in yours. All you need is a little imagination and no respect for the laws of science.

Who Can Do It?
First, who can do this? What creatures can escape their planet’s gravity well? For Earth-like planets, any flying creature with three or more hit dice or levels. For other size planets, it takes more power. For more guidelines on what spells will get characters into wildspace, see SpellSurfing in Wildspace.
J|| 8 HD/Levels

How Fast Can They Do It?
Non spelljammer fliers use their normal (flight) movement rate as their speed, in millions of miles per day. To determine how many turns it takes to escape or enter a planet’s gravity well, take the number of turns required for spelljammers, on page 51 of The Concordance of Arcane Space, and multiply by 100. Divide this by the creature’s (flight) movement rate and you have the number of turns necessary to escape a body’s gravity well, or to land on a planet of that size. Creatures that can move straight up and down, including Maneuverability Class A creatures, divide the number of turns by 3.

Thus, an Owl Dragon, which has a flying movement of 24, can enter an Earth-class planet (Class E) in a little under 17 turns.

Creatures can come in (but not leave) faster if they wish, but for each turn they reduce the landing time by, they take 1d6 of damage. The problem is that their personal gravity well needs to align itself with the planet’s gravity well. If they come in too fast, the gravity wells get out of sync. Very much like “the bends”, a re-alignment that is forced too quickly is damaging; at extreme levels, this damage manifests openly as extreme heat or even fire.

How do they breathe?
Owners of gravity planes carry a larger amount of personal atmosphere with them if they enter wildspace under their own power.

+Air Guidelines
Creature Size !!Personal Air !!Air Used !!Air Envelope
Tiny ||d10/2 Turns|| 1|| 1/2
Small ||d10 Turns|| 2|| 2
Man ||2d10 Turns|| 4|| 8
Large ||4d10 Turns|| 8|| 8 per foot
Huge|| 8d10 Turns|| 16|| 32 per foot
Gargantuan|| 16d10 Turns|| 32|| 128 per foot

Air Envelope is the amount of air in the creature’s envelope if the creature enters wildspace under its own power; otherwise, the air in its envelope is the standard Personal Air pocket for its size. Large creatures and above have a variable envelope depending on their length in feet. The length to be used is the longest measurement of their body. This is a guideline, however, and you may have to adjudicate some odd creatures that are very long but thin, or very round, etc.

Air Used gives how much of the air envelope the various sizes of creatures use, per day. When the air envelope is used up, the air quality goes to foul. Air quality goes from foul to deadly in the same amount of time it took to get to foul.

How Many Passengers Can a Flier’s Envelope Support?
That’s what the Air Used and the Air Envelope stats are for. Air Envelope is the amount of air the creature carries in its envelope. Air Used is the amount of an envelope that creature uses up per day.

Let’s use Nelson the red dragon as an example. Nelson is Huge, so his standard envelope when flying into space is 32 per foot. He is 45 feet long, so he has an air envelope of 1440--enough air to last 90 days before becoming fouled and another 90 days before becoming deadly. He is carrying, however, 4 Humans (Man sized), 2 Hobbits (Small Size) and 1 Pixie (Tiny). Add up the Air Used for each passenger and Nelson.

Nelson: 16 16
Men: 4 each 16
Hobbits: 2 each 4
Pixie: 1 1
Total:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
37

The total for all the passengers and Nelson is 37. Divide Nelson’s Air Envelope of 1440 by that, and you get a result of 39 days. Nelson’s air envelope will become fouled 39 days after leaving the planet’s gravity well. It will become deadly in 39 more days.

Another example--Noel the Ranger is flying his trusty Pegasus Sevril to Mars. Sevril has an air envelope of 8 per foot, since Pegasi are Large. Sevril is 8 feet long, so she carries an air envelope of 64. Adding up the Air Used of Sevril (8) and Noel (4) gives 12. Dividing 64 by 12 gives them 5.3 days of air.

Mars is currently 190 million miles from the Earth/Moon system. Noel and Sevril are taking off from the moon. The moon is a Size D body. It takes a spelljammer 3 turns to get off a size D planet, so multiply 3 by 100, and divide by 48 (Sevril’s movement rate), for 7 turns. At that point, Sevril is moving 48 million miles per day, so it takes practically 4 days to reach the edge of Mars’ gravity well. Mars is a Size E body, which normally takes 4 turns to land on. Four times 100, divided by 48, results in 9, so it takes Sevril 9 more turns to land.

Space, the Final Drag Strip
With all these creatures able to fly from planet to planet, why aren’t there burger joints every few million miles between here and Jupiter? The answer will depend on your campaign: maybe there are. But the chances are there just isn’t going to be that many people traveling. Galloping (what spelljammers call flying under animal power) is very dangerous. In the Pegasus example above, Noel had to know that Mars was a planet. If they had reached Mars and discovered that Mars was a bright red jewel 15 feet across, with no atmosphere, they would have died. It would have taken another 4 days to travel back to Earth, and Sevril didn’t have enough air for that. Simply put, most creatures have no idea that they would want to travel into space, or even that they can. Until this knowledge exists, they’re simply not going to try.

SpellSurfing in WildSpace
Spellsurfing is a term used to describe traveling through wildspace with normal spells, rather than channelling the magical energy through a spelljammer helm. The third level spell Fly has already been mentioned, but there are others that will work.

Windwalk ||60|| see Windwalk, below
Levitations
Levitations, such as Levitate, Reverse Gravity, and Air Walk, can only be used to travel to the edge of a planet’s (or vessel’s) gravity well. After that point, the spell is unable to bring the character any further, into wildspace.

Windwalk
Surprisingly, Wind Walk will work as long as there is an atmosphere, and this includes the personal atmosphere brought into wildspace.

Polymorphs
Polymorph Other, Polymorph Self, and Shape Change work as long as the creature being polymorphed is of the correct hit dice or level to escape the planet’s gravity well. This means that a 4th level fighter could be polymorphed into a sparrow, and then fly out of the gravity well, even though true sparrows are unable to do this. Note that the atmospheric envelope brought with the character is the envelope appropriate to the new size, so even though the fighter could, as a sparrow, escape Earth’s well, he probably wouldn’t have enough air to get anywhere except the moon.

Wishes
Depending on how they are worded, a Wish or a Limited Wish should be able to allow teleportation to other celestial bodies, or the ability to fly to other celestial bodies. This will all depend on how you, as Dungeon Master, use and view wishes in your campaign.

The Speed of Magic
How fast is magic? No, not how fast can you cast it, but how long does it take the magic to leave the spellcaster and arrive at the target?

Don’t know? Okay, here’s another one: why do all spelljamming ships, regardless of size or ship rating, travel at the same speed?

One more: What moves a spelljammer?

Well, magic, you reply. Magic channeled through a spelljamming helm of some kind.

Exactly.

And that’s why all spelljammers, from ancient furnace-powered hulks to the legendary SpellJammer itself, travel at the same speed.

Because magic always travels at the same speed. First level magic, ninth level magic, it all moves at the same speed--100,000,000 miles per day, or 1160 miles per second. It’s just that its so fast, it hasn’t ever been noticed before. Even teleporting to the other side of the planet, in the case of the largest Type E world, will take less than 10 seconds. Without digital watches, who is going to time it?

But teleporting to Mars at it’s furthest point from Earth will take 2.33 days--about the same time it takes a spelljamming vessel. It’ll be a little less, since the teleporter doesn’t need to spend time escaping the current planet’s gravity well and entering the new planet’s well.

Spells such as Clairvoyance and Clairaudience are doubly restricted. In the situation of Mars, above, it takes 2.33 days for the magic to reach Mars, and then another 2.33 days for the magic to return! By this time, the spell’s duration has expired. I rule that the magic searches out it’s caster, which will require another roll (see below) to see if it finds the caster.

With spells that can span wildspace, there is another problem. Normally, spellcasting goes from one point to another point, each fixed in relation to the other. Magic between planets (teleportation, clairvoyance, etc) is between two points that are moving with respect to each other. Familiarity with the destination is downgraded one point because of that. Spells that are normally automatic use the table on page 172 of the Player’s Handbook, under the Wizard spell, Teleport, at the Very Familiar row.

Unless it is dimensional or planar in origin (such as the new second level Priest spell, Contact Home Power), spells cannot span beyond the crystal sphere of the WildSpace they are cast in.

Rusalka are remarkably well known across small villages and fishing hamlets, as they tend to make their presence known fairly early on when they squirm their way into the nearby streams; Usually, this is done by the sudden influx of slimy bubbles and slippery pathways that pop up. These bubbles, known to those who can recognize them as “Rusal Poppers”, are uniquely filled with not only assorted nutrients, but also seemingly filtered water that is considerably purer than the surrounding rivers it emerged from. Seemingly, Rusalka use these bubbles to coat themselves and survive outside of their freshwater environment, as well as remove any imperfections that they may notice with inspiring efficiency. The reason for those obsessive cleaning is unclear, with some sources pointing to the fact that Rusalka simply likes to clean, having a sense of pride after a job well done; However, first-hand reports from rather… Fanatic elementals have shown that they get an immense pleasure rush from cleaning, something that is made even more apparent when they clean natural bodies of water.

After Rusalka finishes scrubbing everything in a 500 km radius down, they often enter a lethargic state, either sprawling out over rocks to sunbathe or laying in flows of shallow streams to sleep.

Legendries have a Patron Genus that they get their powers from, the same way gods get their power from their worshipers. This connection allows the legendary to scry on any of them and for the breed to 'prey' to their legendary and communicate with her no matter how far apart they are, including across dimensions. The Orange Islands explosion was caused be the final attack on Alyssia, the Ultimate Defender, who is now known as EVANGELION, the Legendary Defender Aequis, which happened at the same time the Aequis evolved into Alyssia's Patron Genus and the connection formed at the same time she open the portal to safely divert the nuclear explosion made in connect to Prime instead.

Sukebei was the only person besides Alyssia that knows that the final attack on Anchorage would have shaken the world like a magnitude 10 earthquake.

Sukebei disappeared soon after the destruction of Anchorage, as that attack and The Last Love Song on this Little Planet had finally gotten people to say enough is enough with the empires and replace them with something better. He went looking for Alyssia trying to find out why she didn't return.
He finally figured it out when found the information in the Evangelion Dex entry

Her Evangelion Dex Entry
EVANGELION, the Legendary Defender Aequis

Pronouncation: /iːvaŋˈɡeːlɪən/

Element: Celestial

Frequency: Unique

Diet: Background energy from the creation of the universe

Role: Unknown, possibly protecting mankind from the legendaries

Feral Rate: unknown

Attacks: Telekinesis, Teleport (single and mass), Transcendent Sword, Heaven’s Arrow, Fist of Fate, Wonder Guard, Call Me Queen, Kaiser Wave, Thunder, Gravity, Dive, Invis, Punishment Gaze, Aura Barrier, Cross Shield, Sonic Shot

Evolves: None

Evolves From: None. There is a persistent rumor of Eva (Angel Stone)

When things are at their darkest, often a flame springs up to offer hope.

In 86 AS a pet owner by the name of Lilith Roxette decided to try to evolve Trixie, an Eva she’d had since childhood. Not wanting to be disturbed, she took Trixie to the local park, which was located near the center of the Orange continent. She wanted to find a new evolution and tried various new stones and combinations of stones in her experimentation.

The Evangelion Advent began when Lilith tried an Angel stone. After several seconds of contact, a pillar of brilliant light erupted from the Eva and boiled the skies. The beam also burrowed deep into the bedrock of the continent and shattered it in a cataclysm that plunged most of the Orange continent beneath the waves forever, transforming one of the largest remaining land masses in the world into a series of archipelagos around the blast point. Most life in the Orange continent was blotted out on that fateful day. It is because of this that Eva are forbidden in the Orange League to this day, although no formal reason was ever given, and most people think they’re unlucky and prone to crime.

When the light died down, it revealed the being that we now know is Evangelion. Legend has it that when she saw the destruction, she wept before vanishing. Evangelion has two forms, the first being an armored female form over thirty meters in height. This form looks remarkably human, albeit with four ebony eyes with red pupils set in two rows and bladed wings composed of what appears to be light or some other form of energy. She’s trim and athletic looking, with long copper hair spilling from under her helmet. In her second form, she's more than six and a half feet tall and looks completely human, although evidence suggests she can summon or dismiss her wings and armor as needed. In this form, it should be noted that she scans as completely human.

Reports persist over the centuries of her engaging in titanic battles with several legendaries. Documented battles include one with Lugiass in 110 AS. Lugiass fled the battlefield in disarray. The one with Typhonna in 129AS took place on the surface of the moon and was fortunately recorded by an astronomer studying crater formation. According to visual records, the battle with Typhonna was a draw. Afterwards, both legendary Aequis vanished again.

THE FOLLOWING IS CLASSIFIED SECURITY LEVEL OMEGA (NEED TO KNOW ONLY). Unauthorized persons in possession of this information will be subject to memory purge and possible execution. Professor Emilio Tanner, a Aequis Researcher from the Silver River League, contacted league officials in 168AS with some astounding information. Professor Tanner had been approached by none other than Evangelion who, in return for a taming, granted a brief interview. While Evangelion is an Aequis, she did not evolve from an Eva, or anything else for that matter. She was created on a different earth, by a different Sukebei. On this world, he had been accepted for his creations and Aequae had been designed to aid man. Here the legendaries protected mankind from outside threats, and Evangelion, being Celestial, somehow determined that humanity here needed her help more than the people on her world and came here to protect us from the machinations and assaults of the other legendaries.

According to her, she is unable to involve herself in events that are purely human in nature, but if a legendary or other outside force is involved, she will act to keep humanity safe. Humans and Aequae working as the witting or unwitting agents of a legendary are fair targets. Unfortunately, she feels that the world’s issues with Ferals are a result of the Old Empires' creation of the Red Plague and will not aid us at this time. Interestingly enough, when asked about Sanctuary, her response was that she was still evaluating the level of legendary involvement and had not yet determined whether her intercession was necessary.

Possession of Eva are still forbidden within the Orange Islands because there is the possibility that the gate Evangelion came through is not completely closed, and that reopening it could shatter the crust of the Orange Islands, resulting in tidal waves that could scour the globe of life. It is not known if the events of that day or the presence of the Eva had anything to do with the gate opening, but it pays to be prudent.

Save sex, Save the World.

What kind of work is Quite Unusual doing?
Achieve world peace one small step at a time, starting with creating games to teach the three pillars of Mindsight, Communication and Relationship Skills.

We will make games that stealthily teaches Mindsight and how you earn the trust of those you have sex with, and why that is important.

What impact do you hope to make with this work?
Teach Mindsight which will cause compassion and kindness which will allow people to heal their Core Wounds which will cause people's Hearts to grow to Size 5 Hearts

Who are you hoping to reach with this work?
The world is in a bad state, it can't be fixed immediately; but maybe we can put a bandaid on the adults of today so that they don't mess up their children bad enough that we can't teach them how to raise people that are capable of being part of a healthy society.

Describe the work you plan to do in more detail.
"Besides, how will you be controlled by society if you feel no shame around sex and masturbation?"-- May Pang This Scientist Wants to Prescribe Masturbation as Medication

What we're really here to talk about is the "how." Okay, so how exactly do we create this world-shattering, if you will, innovation?

To end trauma we need world peace. As Harville Hendrix found out "Objection to difference is the source of conflict." The biggest Objection to difference is to demonize the 'other'.
To get people to stop demonizing each other we need them to understand each other.
For people to understand each other they need to have civil conversations with each other.
To have a civil conversation you either need to love that person or to slow down and take steps to understand another person, which is not natural. These skills need to be taught; we can train our brains to experience a sense of belonging like never before.
Here's what I'm doing.

As Einstein once said, “The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing.” to Save the children we have to make it so people aren't too busy with satisfying the vary bottom of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs so we need you to use the lowest need we can(which is sex(which is a different need than sexual intimacy)) WoMon just the first step in http://toohna.ourproject.org/w/index.php?title=The_Plan

Will this work?
You may not know this but plenty of porn is easily available for free on the internet yet one of the first major Captcha breakers was solved by having a game where people solve the Captcha by giving them a pornographic image for each Captcha they solved.

So The Power of Porn is a very proven thing.

So will just getting people to talk to each other really change things?

Magen's story

Christian Picciolini's story

You say,"But Megan was just a child holding a picket sign. Surely The hardcore leaders of the Neo-Nazi's won't be swayed so easily."

With the Power of Porn, we'll expand the success of MyCountryTalks to all of life's divides not just political ones.

Our penultimate step is making clone of P2P(it's based on VAST) F-list clone with RT 3D graphics. We'll pick up the ball Second Life dropped when they decided to try to make themselves not appear as a pervert's paradise.

The we just need to add implement Luis Terán's SmartParticipation design SmartParticipation:A Fuzzy-Based Recommender System for Political Community-Building Then like Linus and Linux, the community should be able to do the rest of the work and we just have to relax and keep the machines working while we take on the tough problems with the world.

"My journey away from violent extremism began 22 years ago, when I denounced racism and left the American white supremacist skinhead movement that I had helped build."

"I was just 22 years old at the time, but I had already spent eight years, from the time I was 14 years old, as one of the earliest and youngest members and an eventual leader within America's most violent hate movement. "

"But I wasn't born into hate; in fact, it was quite the opposite. I had a relatively normal childhood. My parents are Italian immigrants who came to the United States in the mid-1960s and settled on the South Side of Chicago, where they eventually met, and opened a small beauty shop. Right after I was born, things got a little bit more difficult. They struggled to survive with raising a young family and a new business, often working seven days a week, 14 hours a day, taking on second and third jobs just to earn a meager living. And quality time with my parents was pretty nonexistent. Even though I knew they loved me very much, growing up, I felt abandoned. I was lonely, and I started to withdraw, and then I started to resent my parents and become very angry. And as I was growing up, through my teenage years, I started to act out to try and get attention from my parents."

"And one day, when I was 14, I was standing in an alley, and I was smoking a joint, and a man who was twice my age, with a shaved head and tall black boots, came up to me, and he snatched the joint from my lips. Then he put his hand on my shoulder and he looked me in the eyes, and he said, "That's what the communists and the Jews want you to do to keep you docile." I was 14 years old, I'd been trading baseball cards and watching "Happy Days" -- I didn't really know what a Jew was. "

"But it was as if this man in this alley had offered me a lifeline. For 14 years, I'd felt marginalized and bullied. I had low self-esteem. And frankly, I didn't know who I was, where I belonged, or what my purpose was. I was lost. And overnight, because this man had pulled me in, and I had grabbed onto that lifeline with every fiber of my being, I had gone from 'Joanie Loves Chachi' to full-blown Nazi. Overnight. "

"I started to listen to the rhetoric and believe it. I started to watch very closely as the leaders of this organization would target vulnerable young people who felt marginalized and then draw them in with promises of paradise that were broken. And then I started to recruit myself. I started to do that by making white-power music. And soon, I became the leader of that infamous organization that was led by that man in that alley who recruited me that day, who was America's first neo-Nazi skinhead and who had radicalized me. For the next eight years, I believed the lies that I had been fed. And though I saw no evidence of it whatsoever, I didn't hesitate to blame every Jewish person in the world for what I thought was a white, European genocide being promoted by them through a multiculturalist agenda. I blamed people of color for the crime and violence and the drugs in the city, completely neglecting the fact that I was committing acts of violence on a daily basis, and that in many cases, it was white supremacists who were funneling drugs into the inner cities. And I blamed immigrants for taking jobs from white Americans, completely neglecting the fact that my parents were hardworking immigrants who struggled to survive, despite not getting help from anybody else."

"For the next eight years, I saw friends die, I saw others go to prison and inflict untold pain on countless victims and their families' lives. I heard horrific stories from young women in the movement, who'd been brutally raped by the very men they were conditioned to trust, and I myself committed acts of violence against people, solely for the color of their skin, who they loved, or the god that they prayed to. I stockpiled weapons for what I thought was an upcoming race war. I went to six high schools; I was kicked out of four of them, one of them, twice. And 25 years ago, I wrote and performed racist music that found its way to the internet decades later and partially inspired a young white nationalist to walk into a sacred Charleston, South Carolina, church and senselessly massacre nine innocent people. "

"But then my life changed. At 19 years old, I met a girl who was not in the movement, who didn't have a racist bone in her body, and I fell in love with her. And at 19, we got married, and we had our first son. And when I held my son in my arms in the delivery room that day, not only did I reconnect with some of the innocence that I had lost at 14 years old, but it also began to challenge the very important things that drew me to the movement to begin with: identity, community and purpose -- things that I had been struggling with as a young boy. And now, I struggled with the concept of who I was again. Was I this neo-Nazi hatemonger, or was I a caring father and husband? Was my community the one that I had manufactured around me to boost my own ego, because I felt self-hatred for myself and I wanted to project it onto others, or was it the one that I had physically given life to? Was my purpose to scorch the earth or was it to make it a better place for my family? And suddenly, like a ton of bricks hit me, I became very confused with who I'd been for the last eight years. And if only I'd been brave enough to walk away at that moment, to understand what the struggle was that was happening inside of me, then maybe tragedy could have been averted. "

"Instead, I did compromise. I took myself off the streets for the benefit of my family, because I was nervous that maybe I could go to jail or end up dead, and they would have to fend for themselves. So I stepped back as a leader, and instead I opened a record store that I was going to sell white-power music in, of course, because I was importing it in from Europe. But I knew that if I was just a racist store selling racist music the community would not allow me to be there. So I decided I was going to also stock the shelves with other music, like punk rock and heavy metal and hip-hop. And while the white-power music that I was selling was 75 percent of my gross revenue, because people were driving in from all over the country to buy it from the only store that was selling it."

"I also had customers come in to buy the other music. And eventually, they started to talk to me. One day, a young black teen came in, and he was visibly upset. And I decided to ask him what was wrong. And he told me that his mother had been diagnosed with breast cancer. And suddenly, this young black teenager, who I'd never had a meaningful conversation or interaction with, I was able to connect with, because my own mother had been diagnosed with breast cancer, and I could feel his pain. On another occasion, a gay couple came in with their son, and it was undeniable to me that they loved their son in the same profound ways that I loved mine. And suddenly, I couldn't rationalize or justify the prejudice that I had in my head. "

"I decided to pull the white-power music from the inventory when I became too embarrassed to sell it in front of my new friends. And of course, the store couldn't sustain itself, so I had to close it. At that same time, I lost nearly everything in my life. I used it as an opportunity to walk away from the movement that I'd been a part of for eight years, the only identity, community and purpose that I'd really known for most of my life. So I had nobody. I lost my livelihood because I closed the store. I didn't have a great relationship with my parents, even though they tried. And my wife and children left me, because I hadn't left the movement and disengaged quickly enough. And suddenly, I didn't know who I was again, or where I fit in or what my purpose was supposed to be. I was miserable inside, and I often woke up in the morning wishing that I hadn't. "

"About five years in, one of the few friends that I had was concerned about my well-being, and she came to me and she said, "You need to do something, because I don't want to see you die." And she suggested that I go apply for a job where she worked, at a company called IBM. Yeah, I thought she was crazy, too. "

"Here I was, a closeted ex-Nazi covered in hate tattoos. I didn't go to college. I'd been kicked out of multiple high schools multiple times. I didn't even own a computer. But I went in, and somehow, miraculously, I got the job. I was thrilled."

"And then I became terrified to learn that they'd actually be putting me back at my old high school, the same one I got kicked out of twice, to install their computers. This was a high school where I had committed acts of violence against students, against faculty; where I had protested out in front of the school for equal rights for whites and even had a sit-in in the cafeteria to try and demand a white student union. "

"And of course, as karma would have it, within the first couple of hours, who walks right by me but Mr. Johnny Holmes, the tough black security guard I had gotten in a fistfight with, that got me kicked out the second time and led out in handcuffs from the school. He didn't recognize me, but I saw him, and I didn't know what to do. I was frozen; I was this grown man now, years out of the movement, and I was sweating and I was trembling. But I decided I had to do something. And I decided I needed to suffer under the weight of my past, because for five years I had tried to outrun it. I'd tried to make new friends and cover my tattoos with long sleeves, and I wouldn't admit it because I was afraid of being judged the same way I had judged other people. Well, I decided I was going to chase Mr. Holmes out to the parking lot -- probably not the smartest decision that I made. "

"But when I found him, he was getting into his car, and I tapped him on the shoulder. And when he turned around and he recognized me, he took a step back because he was afraid. And I didn't know what to say. Finally, the words came out of my mouth, and all I could think to say was, "I'm sorry." And he embraced me, and he forgave me. And he encouraged me to forgive myself. He recognized that it wasn't the story of some broken go-nowhere kid who was going to just join a gang and go to prison. He knew that this was the story of every young person who was vulnerable, who was searching for identity, community and purpose, and then hit a wall and was unable to find it and went down a dark path. And he made me promise one thing, that I would tell my story to whoever would listen. That was 18 years ago, and I've been doing it ever since. "

"You might be asking yourself right now: How does a good kid from a hardworking immigrant family end up going down such a dark path? One word: potholes. That's right. Potholes. I had a lot of potholes when I was kid. We all had them -- you know, the things in life that we hit that invariably just kind of nudge us off our path, and if they remain unresolved or untreated or not dealt with, sometimes we can get dangerously lost down pretty dark corridors. Potholes can be things like trauma, abuse, unemployment, neglect, untreated mental health conditions, even privilege. And if we hit enough potholes on our journey in life, and we don't have the resources or the help to navigate around them or to pull us out, well, sometimes good people end up doing bad things. "

"One such person who had potholes is Darrell. Darrell is from upstate New York. He had read my memoir, and he was really upset about the ending. You see, I'd gotten out of the movement and he was still in. And he emailed me and he said, "I didn't really like the way that turned out." And I said, "Well, I'm sorry." "

"'But if you want to talk about it, we could certainly do that.'"

"And after a couple of weeks of going back and forth with Darrell, I learned he was a 31-year-old military veteran who had been injured and was really angry about not being able to go to Afghanistan to kill Muslims. And one day on the phone, he told me that he had seen a Muslim man in the park praying, and that all he wanted to do was kick him in the face. I flew to Buffalo the next day, and I sat down with Darrell, and I asked him, 'Have you ever met a Muslim person before?' And he said, 'No! Why the hell would I want to do that? They're evil. I don't want anything to do with them.' I said, 'OK.' So I excused myself, and I went into the bathroom and I took my phone out in the bathroom, and I Googled the local mosque, and I called them very quietly from the bathroom, and I said, 'Excuse me, imam, I need a favor. I have a Christian man who would really love to learn more about your religion.' "

"'Do you mind if we stop by?'"

"Well, it took some convincing for Darrell to go, but finally we got there, and when I knocked on the door, the imam said he only had 15 minutes left for us, because he was preparing for a prayer service. I said, 'We'll take it.' We went in, and two and a half hours later, we came out after hugging and crying and, very strangely, bonding over Chuck Norris for some reason. "

"I don't know what it was about that, but that's what happened. And I'm happy to say now that Darrell and the imam, you can often find them at the local falafel stand, having lunch together. "

"You see, it's our disconnection from each other.

Hatred is born of ignorance.

Fear is its father, and isolation is its mother. When we don't understand something, we tend to be afraid of it, and if we keep ourselves from it, that fear grows, and sometimes, it turns into hatred.

Since I've left the movement, I've helped over a hundred people disengage from extremist movements, from white supremacist groups to even jihadist groups."

"And the way I do that is not by arguing with them, not by debating them, not by even telling them they're wrong, even though, boy, I want to sometimes. I don't do that.

Instead, I don't push them away.

I draw them in closer, and I listen very closely for their potholes, and then I begin to fill them in.

I try to make people more resilient, more self-confident, more able to have skills to compete in the marketplace so that they don't have to blame the other, the other that they've never met. "

" Initially, the people I encountered on the platform were just as hostile as I expected. They were the digital version of the screaming hordes I'd been seeing at protests since I was a kid. But in the midst of that digital brawl, a strange pattern developed. Someone would arrive at my profile with the usual rage and scorn, I would respond with a custom mix of Bible verses, pop culture references and smiley faces. They would be understandably confused and caught off guard, but then a conversation would ensue. <b>And it was civil</b> -- full of genuine curiosity on both sides. How had the other come to such outrageous conclusions about the world? "

"Sometimes the conversation even bled into real life. ... He ran a blog called "Jewlicious," and after several months of heated but friendly arguments online, he came out to see me at a picket in New Orleans. He brought me a Middle Eastern dessert from Jerusalem, where he lives, and I brought him kosher chocolate and held a "God hates Jews" sign. "

"There was no confusion about our positions, but the line between friend and foe was becoming blurred. We'd started to see each other as human beings, and it changed the way we spoke to one another. "

"It took time, but eventually these conversations planted seeds of doubt in me. My friends on Twitter took the time to understand Westboro's doctrines, and in doing so, they were able to find inconsistencies I'd missed my entire life. Why did we advocate the death penalty for gays when Jesus said, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone?" How could we claim to love our neighbor while at the same time praying for God to destroy them? The truth is that the care shown to me by these strangers on the internet was itself a contradiction. It was growing evidence that people on the other side were not the demons I'd been led to believe. "

"These realizations were life-altering. Once I saw that we were not the ultimate arbiters of divine truth but flawed human beings, I couldn't pretend otherwise. I couldn't justify our actions -- especially our cruel practice of protesting funerals and celebrating human tragedy. These shifts in my perspective contributed to a larger erosion of trust in my church, and eventually it made it impossible for me to stay. "

"In spite of overwhelming grief and terror, I left Westboro in 2012. In those days just after I left, the instinct to hide was almost paralyzing. I wanted to hide from the judgement of my family, who I knew would never speak to me again -- people whose thoughts and opinions had meant everything to me. And I wanted to hide from the world I'd rejected for so long -- people who had no reason at all to give me a second chance after a lifetime of antagonism. And yet, unbelievably, they did. "

"The world had access to my past because it was all over the internet -- thousands of tweets and hundreds of interviews, everything from local TV news to "The Howard Stern Show" -- but so many embraced me with open arms anyway. I wrote an apology for the harm I'd caused, but I also knew that an apology could never undo any of it. All I could do was try to build a new life and find a way somehow to repair some of the damage. People had every reason to doubt my sincerity, but most of them didn't. And -- given my history, it was more than I could've hoped for -- forgiveness and the benefit of the doubt. It still amazes me. "

"David, my "Jewlicious" friend from Twitter, invited us to spend time among a Jewish community in Los Angeles. We slept on couches in the home of a Hasidic rabbi and his wife and their four kids -- the same rabbi that I'd protested three years earlier with a sign that said, "Your rabbi is a whore." We spent long hours talking about theology and Judaism and life while we washed dishes in their kosher kitchen and chopped vegetables for dinner. They treated us like family. They held nothing against us, and again I was astonished."

"That period was full of turmoil, but one part I've returned to often is a surprising realization I had during that time -- that it was a relief and a privilege to let go of the harsh judgments that instinctively ran through my mind about nearly every person I saw. I realized that now I needed to learn. I needed to listen. "

"This has been at the front of my mind lately, because I can't help but see in our public discourse so many of the same destructive impulses that ruled my former church. We celebrate tolerance and diversity more than at any other time in memory, and still we grow more and more divided. We want good things -- justice, equality, freedom, dignity, prosperity -- but the path we've chosen looks so much like the one I walked away from four years ago. We've broken the world into us and them, only emerging from our bunkers long enough to lob rhetorical grenades at the other camp. We write off half the country as out-of-touch liberal elites or racist misogynist bullies. No nuance, no complexity, no humanity. Even when someone does call for empathy and understanding for the other side, the conversation nearly always devolves into a debate about who deserves more empathy. And just as I learned to do, we routinely refuse to acknowledge the flaws in our positions or the merits in our opponent's. Compromise is anathema. We even target people on our own side when they dare to question the party line. This path has brought us cruel, sniping, deepening polarization, and even outbreaks of violence. I remember this path. It will not take us where we want to go. "

"What gives me hope is that we can do something about this.

The good news is that it's simple, and the bad news is that it's hard. We have to talk and listen to people we disagree with.

It's hard because we often can't fathom how the other side came to their positions.
It's hard because righteous indignation, that sense of certainty that ours is the right side, is so seductive.
It's hard because it means extending empathy and compassion to people who show us hostility and contempt. The impulse to respond in kind is so tempting, but that isn't who we want to be. We can resist. And I will always be inspired to do so by those people I encountered on Twitter, apparent enemies who became my beloved friends. And in the case of one particularly understanding and generous guy, my husband.

There was nothing special about the way I responded to him.

What was special was their approach.

I thought about it a lot over the past few years and I found four things they did differently that made real conversation possible. These four steps were small but powerful, and I do everything I can to employ them in difficult conversations today. "

"The first is don't assume bad intent. My friends on Twitter realized that even when my words were aggressive and offensive, I sincerely believed I was doing the right thing. Assuming ill motives almost instantly cuts us off from truly understanding why someone does and believes as they do. We forget that they're a human being with a lifetime of experience that shaped their mind, and we get stuck on that first wave of anger, and the conversation has a very hard time ever moving beyond it. But when we assume good or neutral intent, we give our minds a much stronger framework for dialogue. "

"The second is ask questions. When we engage people across ideological divides, asking questions helps us map the disconnect between our differing points of view. That's important because we can't present effective arguments if we don't understand where the other side is actually coming from and because it gives them an opportunity to point out flaws in our positions. But asking questions serves another purpose; it signals to someone that they're being heard. When my friends on Twitter stopped accusing and started asking questions, I almost automatically mirrored them. Their questions gave me room to speak, but they also gave me permission to ask them questions and to truly hear their responses. It fundamentally changed the dynamic of our conversation. "

"The third is stay calm. This takes practice and patience, but it's powerful. At Westboro, I learned not to care how my manner of speaking affected others. I thought my rightness justified my rudeness -- harsh tones, raised voices, insults, interruptions -- but that strategy is ultimately counterproductive. Dialing up the volume and the snark is natural in stressful situations, but it tends to bring the conversation to an unsatisfactory, explosive end. When my husband was still just an anonymous Twitter acquaintance, our discussions frequently became hard and pointed, but we always refused to escalate. Instead, he would change the subject. He would tell a joke or recommend a book or gently excuse himself from the conversation. We knew the discussion wasn't over, just paused for a time to bring us back to an even keel. People often lament that digital communication makes us less civil, but this is one advantage that online conversations have over in-person ones. We have a buffer of time and space between us and the people whose ideas we find so frustrating. We can use that buffer. Instead of lashing out, we can pause, breathe, change the subject or walk away, and then come back to it when we're ready. "

"And finally, make the argument.

This might seem obvious, but one side effect of having strong beliefs is that we sometimes assume that the value of our position is or should be obvious and self-evident, that we shouldn't have to defend our positions because they're so clearly right and good that if someone doesn't get it, it's their problem -- that it's not my job to educate them. But if it were that simple, we would all see things the same way.

As kind as my friends on Twitter were, if they hadn't actually made their arguments, it would've been so much harder for me to see the world in a different way. We are all a product of our upbringing, and our beliefs reflect our experiences. We can't expect others to spontaneously change their own minds. If we want change, we have to make the case for it. "

"My friends on Twitter didn't abandon their beliefs or their principles -- only their scorn. They channeled their infinitely justifiable offense and came to me with pointed questions tempered with kindness and humor. They approached me as a human being, and that was more transformative than two full decades of outrage, disdain and violence. I know that some might not have the time or the energy or the patience for extensive engagement, but as difficult as it can be, reaching out to someone we disagree with is an option that is available to all of us. And I sincerely believe that we can do hard things, not just for them but for us and our future. Escalating disgust and intractable conflict are not what we want for ourselves, or our country or our next generation. "

"My mom said something to me a few weeks before I left Westboro, when I was desperately hoping there was a way I could stay with my family. People I have loved with every pulse of my heart since even before I was that chubby-cheeked five-year-old, standing on a picket line holding a sign I couldn't read. She said, "You're just a human being, my dear, sweet child." She was asking me to be humble -- not to question but to trust God and my elders. But to me, she was missing the bigger picture -- that we're all just human beings. That we should be guided by that most basic fact, and approach one another with generosity and compassion. "

"Each one of us contributes to the communities and the cultures and the societies that we make up. The end of this spiral of rage and blame begins with one person who refuses to indulge these destructive, seductive impulses. We just have to decide that it's going to start with us. "

Introduction
TIAN XIA didn’t realize her sexual belief was different from others until she went to America. As a Christian, she firmly believed that people shouldn’t have sex before marriage. However, in western society, such a notion has become outdated as sexual revolutions since the 1960s gradually dissolved boundaries in gender relations. Therefore, as someone “from the last century,” quote courtesy of her friends, she became a deviant in this open world. Although she object to premarital sex, this was not the purpose in telling me this story. Instead, She was trying to argue here that since our sexual identities are so subjective and vulnerable, consent is not enough to constitute morally acceptable sex.

She loved her boyfriend. They shared the same hobbies of music and sports, and our career goals coincided; so if fortunate, they would study the same major in the same college. Even our sexual ethics were similarly in favor of the Catholic view of sex. However, one day, he embraced her in his arms, looked into my eyes, and said: “Would you go for a night out with me?”

“Why?” she raised her head. His eyes were so genuine and passionate that it would be stupid to reject him. He told her that teenagers had already had sex at our age, and he would be regarded as a “baby” if he had not already done so. “Why care about them?” She struck back and found myself being inconsiderate at that very moment. She knew she would never engage in sex before marriage because of her religion, but she also knew that the power of peer pressure is so enormous that she couldn’t blame him for his thinking. Of course, she didn’t want his friends to look down on him, but when no one seemed to ally with my interest, she felt weak to insist on my voice being heard as well.

She contemplated the dissonance between her peer values and her sexual self. On the one hand, she care about the dignity of marriage and family, and she desired to save her first time for her husband. On the other hand, she dreaded not only losing her boyfriend but also the prejudice from other people against her. Is it ever possible that she will find someone willing to wait until marriage? What if her future lovers break up with her when she refuse to have sex with them? After all, what’s the matter with premarital sex? Why holding on to this conservative notion when everyone is acting otherwise? She couldn’t withstand the loneliness of being left out, as the need to belong is part of her vulnerable human nature. But when She was about to decide, she realized she still can’t forsake the traditional Catholic values embedded in her personality.

At last, her boyfriend broke up with her because she had never consented to his requests. This seems to be a proper ending, but what if she agreed to have sex with him out of fear? Would it make the subsequent sexual encounters morally permissible? The answer, as she would exemplify in the rest of this paper, is no. There’s more to consider for morally permissible sex than consent.

Why Consent isn't worth a damn
<u>Good sex shouldn't depend on faultless self-knowledge. Katherine Angel puts forward the case for desire's emergent and contextual nature.</u>

In recent years, two requirements for good sex have emerged: consent, and self-knowledge. Consent, in Joseph Fischel’s words, gives ‘moral magic to sex.’ Self-knowledge too, is paramount. ‘Know what you want and learn what your partner wants’, urged a New York Times article in July 2018; ‘good sex happens where those two agendas meet.’ ‘Have the conversation’, a sex educator exhorted on BBC Radio 4’s ‘The New Age of Consent’ in September 2018—the direct, honest conversation about sex, about whether you want it, and exactly what you want. Have it before you are in the bedroom; have it in the bar, have it in the cab home—any awkwardness will be worth it later. This rhetoric is not entirely new; Rachel Bussell Kramer wrote in 2008 that ‘as women, it’s our duty to ourselves and our partners to get more vocal about asking for what we want in bed, as well as sharing what we don’t. Neither partner can afford to be passive and just wait to see how far the other person will go.’ Women are urged to know their desires, and be clear and confident about expressing them. Simple, right?

These principles are framed as common-sense, and easy enough. They are also framed as inherently liberatory, since they emphasise women’s capacity for—and right to—sexual desire and pleasure. But in urging women to be confident and clear about their sexual desires, the consent discourse risks denying the fact that women are often punished for precisely the sexually confident and assertive positions they are being asked to cultivate. What’s more, the exhortations to confidence and positivity—the insistence on defiant affirmation—have an underbelly: they render lack of confidence, insecurity, or not-knowing as ugly, abject, and shameful. They brook little vulnerability or ambivalence. And they make inadmissible the experience of not knowing what one wants in the first place.

----

It’s often been acknowledged that fear of male violence can make it difficult for women to say no to sex; a hurt and entitled male ego is one more likely to lash out. One target of Weinstein’s campaign of sexual intimidation spoke in an interview of having been afraid to ‘poke the bear’; afraid, when confronted with his demands, to do anything to inflame his anger, violence, or desire for retribution. A witness in his ongoing trial has told the court that if Weinstein ‘heard the word “no”, it was like a trigger for him’.

Equally important, however, is the difficulty of saying yes, and of expressing desire. Evidence that a woman has used apps such as Tinder to meet sexual partners can work against her in a courtroom, even if this is irrelevant to the allegation before the court. Helena Kennedy has shown in Eve Was Shamed that a woman’s willingness to have casual sex with a stranger often counts heavily against her in a trial. If the case in court, Kennedy writes, resulted from ‘a contact made through a hook-up website, there would be little hope of conviction.’ You can’t be raped, in other words, by someone you met on Tinder; by someone you are thought to have met out of a confident desire for sex.

Women know, then, that their sexual desire can remove protection from them, and can be invoked as proof—not that violence did not take place, but that violence wasn’t wrong (she wanted it). A woman’s sexual appetite can be invoked to justify male aggression, and it is often the very means through which violence is exonerated. Why else would a lawyer hold up a rape complainant’s underwear in court? In a trial in Ireland in which a seventeen-year-old alleged a twenty-seven-year-old man had committed rape, a female counsel did precisely this, saying ‘You have to look at the way she was dressed. She was wearing a lace thong.’ Once a woman is thought to have said yes to something, she can't say no to anything. Her desire disqualifies her from justice.

Where do these ugly facts leave women, the very same women who are told, in relentlessly upbeat tones, to know and express their desires; that they owe it to themselves, to their sexual happiness, to their sexual partners, and to their safety, to proclaim their desire without shame? What good is all this expression of positivity and confidence? As Sara Ahmed observes, sometimes ‘the repetition of good sentiment feels oppressive’.

It’s no coincidence that the reformulation of consent as affirmative and enthusiastic took root in the 1990s, a decade in which post-feminism made sexual assertiveness and sex-positivity imperative. In the era of post-feminism, the utterly reasonable claim that women should be afforded sexual freedom— that it should be acceptable for them to declare their desire loudly, to be perverse and lustful and up-for-it—slid into the more dubious insistence that women areand mustbe so. And something of this insistence—that in the name of sexual equality, women must hold their end up and be assertive, declamatory, unashamed—found its way into the affirmative and enthusiastic consent initiatives.

Emphasising women’s desire is often thought to be inherently liberatory: if we establish once and for all that women are lustful creatures, then shame and stigma will wane—and if we normalise the expression of desire in women, it will be harder for men to coerce them, or to claim confusion about whether a woman ‘wanted it’ or not.

But this logic does not, in fact, get us very far. Who does the exhortation to know one’s desires and express them really serve? In a recent interview, Donna Rotunno, the female lawyer defending Harvey Weinstein in trial, said that ‘women need to be very clear about their intentions’ and ‘prepared for the circumstances they put themselves in.’ She also said that men ‘in today’s world’ should ask women to sign consent forms before sex. Here, knowing one’s desires serves as a condition for protecting oneself from violence; in the consent conversation, too, knowledge of one’s desires too becomes something with which we must come, as if armed, to sex, in order to be clear and avoid confusion. We must know our own desires, as a condition of pleasure and of safety. That seems like a steep bargain to me.

Knowing one’s desires, in Rotunno’s logic, also functions as a form of protection for men anxious about later allegations. These equivocations, and Rotunno’s use of them, should at the very least signal to us how limited the injunctions to know and to express our desires really are as the overwhelming rubric for ensuring good—pleasurable, ethical—sex. With friends like these, who needs Weinsteins?

We must be wary of urging particular (namely, assertive, direct) modes of sexuality on women as the pre-emptive solution to male sexual violence. This is a strategy that places the burden of sexual communication, and of sexual violence, disproportionately on women, making them—their feelings, and their words—responsible for good sex. And if women fail in these requirements, who bears the burden of that failure?

----

When did we buy the idea that we know what we want, whether in sex or elsewhere? This idea assumes that desire is something that lies in wait, fully formed within us, ready for us to extract. But a sexual ethics that is worth its name has to allow for obscurity, for opacity, and for not-knowing. Sex is social, emergent, and responsive; it is a dynamic, a conversation. Our desires emerge in interaction; we don’t always know what we want; sometimes we discover things we didn’t know we wanted; sometimes we discover what we want, or don’t, only in the doing.

This feature of desire—its uncertain, unfolding quality—is frightening. It’s frightening because it opens up the possibility of women not knowing their own desire, and of men capitalising on that lack of certainty by coercing or bullying them. But we must not deny this aspect of desire as a consequence; we must not insist on a sexual desire that is fixed and known in advance, in order to be safe. That would be to hold sexuality hostage to violence.

We don’t always know what we want, and we are not always able to express our desires clearly. This is in part due to the violence, misogyny, and shame that desire’s discovery is difficult, and its expression fraught. But desire’s emergent nature—its responsiveness to context, to our histories, and to the desires and behaviours of others—is also what can make sex exciting, rich, and meaningful. We are social creatures; our desires emerge—and have always emerged, from day one—in relation to those who care, or do not care, for us. How then, do we make this fact galvanising rather than paralysing? How do we resist retreating into an insistence either that desire is something it is not (transparent, fixed, certain), or that sexuality is too complex for any sustained ethical enquiry? How do we have good sex without insisting that we must first know all of our desire? This is the task before us; instead of fiddling with notions of consent on which we place too high an ethical burden, we need to articulate an ethics of sex that does not try frantically to keep desire’s uncertainty at bay. We need, in contrast, to start from this very premise—this risky, complex premise: that we shouldn’t have to know ourselves in order to be safe from violence.

It's time we get serious about changing sex education
If we as a society want to have the above examples of both Abusive or Violent Sex and Bad Sex decrease in frequency and severity, then it means we change our sex education. I'm talking about a total overhaul. Teaching pregnancy and STI prevention and basic anatomy (and I mean basic: How many of you clitoris-havers were actually taught about the clitoris?) is not enough and never has been. I would argue it has only led to two things: All of the Abusive or Violent Sex we have been talking about these last few years and all the Bad Sex people are having that I and so many of my fellow sex therapists and sex educators must help them address.

Only solo masturbation happens with ourselves. The rest of it happens within the context of relationships, however brief, with other people. “Teaching about sex” also means teaching self-knowledge and relationship skills. It means we grow up and let go of what is not collectively serving us anymore. This includes our beliefs, attitudes, laws, and ethics about sex. Are we ready to advance to the intermediate level of understanding Sex in general?

Treating someone that isn't you inferior or student in the manner of a Nurture culture is either the ultimate insult if it viewed as saying you're crap compared to me. Or a deep show of closeness if it viewed as saying, "You are like my child"

Like the Irish, people in WoMon practice slagging with their friends and is considered a sign of a respect. It is seen as saying "not matter how hard I try, my attacks against your psyche are futile" or "See how unable I am to defend myself against you. I'm completely at your mercy please be gentle on me." and when to slag them back it's saying, "You're as my mercy?

In 1868 in England, Charles Darwin proposed his pangenesis theory to describe the units of inheritance between parents and offspring and the processes by which those units control development in offspring. Darwin coined the concept of gemmules, which he said referred to hypothesized minute particles of inheritance thrown off by all cells of the body. The theory suggested that an organism's environment could modify the gemmules in any parts of the body, and that these modified gemmules would congregate in the reproductive organs of parents to be passed on to their offspring.

Darwin argued that, in what he called higher animals or plants, every cell in their bodies emitted small particles, which were units of heredity, that he called gemmules. The gemmules could either circulate and disperse in the body system, or they could aggregate in the sexual cells located in reproductive organs. As hereditary units, the gemmules transmitted from parents to offspring, where they developed into cells that resembled the parents' cells.

She approached him because she recognized his camera flash — Aziz Ansari was taking pictures at the 2017 Emmy Awards after-party with a film camera, not a digital one. “I stood up, and I’m like tipsy at this point and feeling really confident. I’m in a gown, and I walked up to Aziz and said, ‘What’d you just shoot with?’”

Grace is a 23-year-old Brooklyn-based photographer, then aged 22. We are not using her real name to protect her identity because she is not a public figure. She says Ansari brushed her off at first, but after he realized they both brought the same kind of camera to the event, an old model from the 80s, he was impressed.

They flirted a little — he took two pictures of her, she snapped some of him — and then she and her date went back to the dance floor. “It was like, one of those things where you’re aware of the other person all night,” she said. “We would catch eyes every now and then.”

One of two photos Grace took of Ansari at the Emmys after party.
They ran into each other one last time, right as Grace was leaving. At Ansari’s suggestion, she put her number in his phone.

When her plane landed back in New York the next day, she already had a message from him. They exchanged flirtatious banter over text for a week or so before he asked her to go out with him on Monday, September 25.

The date didn’t go as planned. The night would end with Grace in an Uber home, in tears, messaging her friends about how Ansari behaved. Babe spoke to the first friends she told about it, and reviewed the messages on her phone.

The day after the incident, she wrote a long text to Ansari, saying: “I just want to take this moment to make you aware of [your] behavior and how uneasy it made me.” To that message, Ansari responds: “Clearly, I misread things in the moment and I’m truly sorry.”

The mobile phone number from which his texts to her were sent matches up with his details on a searchable public register.

We spoke to Grace last week. When we met, Ansari had just won Best Actor for his Netflix show “Master Of None” at the Golden Globes, where he declared his support for the fight against sexual assault and harassment by wearing a “Time’s Up” pin on the red carpet.

Grace said it was surreal to be meeting up with Ansari, a successful comedian and major celebrity, and she was “excited” for their date.

Ansari at the Golden Globes with his Time’s Up pin.
Before meeting Ansari, Grace told friends and coworkers about the date and consulted her go-to group chat about what she should wear to fit the “cocktail chic” dress-code he gave her. She settled on “a tank-top dress and jeans.” She showed me a picture, it was a good outfit.

After arriving at his apartment in Manhattan on Monday evening, they exchanged small talk and drank wine. “It was white,” she said. “I didn’t get to choose and I prefer red, but it was white wine.” Then Ansari walked her to Grand Banks, an Oyster bar onboard a historic wooden schooner on the Hudson River just a few blocks away.

She said it was a beautiful, warm September night. They discussed NYU, comedy and a new, secret project he was working on, but she says she did most of the talking.

Grace says she sensed Ansari was eager for them to leave. “When the waiter came over he quickly asked for the check and he said like, ‘Let’s get off this boat.’” She recalls there was still wine in her glass and more left in the bottle he ordered. The abruptness surprised her. “Like, he got the check and then it was bada-boom, bada-bing, we’re out of there.”

Grace took this photo of their meal, lobster rolls and a side salad.
They walked the two blocks back to his apartment building, an exclusive address on TriBeCa’s Franklin Street, where Taylor Swift has a place too. When they walked back in, she complimented his marble countertops. According to Grace, Ansari turned the compliment into an invitation.

“He said something along the lines of, ‘How about you hop up and take a seat?’” Within moments, he was kissing her. “In a second, his hand was on my breast.” Then he was undressing her, then he undressed himself. She remembers feeling uncomfortable at how quickly things escalated.

When Ansari told her he was going to grab a condom within minutes of their first kiss, Grace voiced her hesitation explicitly. “I said something like, ‘Whoa, let’s relax for a sec, let’s chill.’” She says he then resumed kissing her, briefly performed oral sex on her, and asked her to do the same thing to him. She did, but not for long. “It was really quick. Everything was pretty much touched and done within ten minutes of hooking up, except for actual sex.”

She says Ansari began making a move on her that he repeated during their encounter. “The move he kept doing was taking his two fingers in a V-shape and putting them in my mouth, in my throat to wet his fingers, because the moment he’d stick his fingers in my throat he’d go straight for my vagina and try to finger me.” Grace called the move “the claw.”

Ansari also physically pulled her hand towards his penis multiple times throughout the night, from the time he first kissed her on the countertop onward. “He probably moved my hand to his dick five to seven times,” she said. “He really kept doing it after I moved it away.”

But the main thing was that he wouldn’t let her move away from him. She compared the path they cut across his apartment to a football play. “It was 30 minutes of me getting up and moving and him following and sticking his fingers down my throat again. It was really repetitive. It felt like a fucking game.”

Throughout the course of her short time in the apartment, she says she used verbal and non-verbal cues to indicate how uncomfortable and distressed she was. “Most of my discomfort was expressed in me pulling away and mumbling. I know that my hand stopped moving at some points,” she said. “I stopped moving my lips and turned cold.”

Whether Ansari didn’t notice Grace’s reticence or knowingly ignored it is impossible for her to say. “I know I was physically giving off cues that I wasn’t interested. I don’t think that was noticed at all, or if it was, it was ignored.”

Ansari wanted to have sex. She said she remembers him asking again and again, “Where do you want me to fuck you?” while she was still seated on the countertop. She says she found the question tough to answer because she says she didn’t want to fuck him at all.

“I wasn’t really even thinking of that, I didn’t want to be engaged in that with him. But he kept asking, so I said, ‘Next time.’ And he goes, ‘Oh, you mean second date?’ and I go, ‘Oh, yeah, sure,’ and he goes, ‘Well, if I poured you another glass of wine now, would it count as our second date?’” He then poured her a glass and handed it to her. She excused herself to the bathroom soon after.

Grace says she spent around five minutes in the bathroom, collecting herself in the mirror and splashing herself with water. Then she went back to Ansari. He asked her if she was okay. “I said I don’t want to feel forced because then I’ll hate you, and I’d rather not hate you,” she said.

She told babe that at first, she was happy with how he reacted. “He said, ‘Oh, of course, it’s only fun if we’re both having fun.’ The response was technically very sweet and acknowledging the fact that I was very uncomfortable. Verbally, in that moment, he acknowledged that I needed to take it slow. Then he said, ‘Let’s just chill over here on the couch.’”

This moment is particularly significant for Grace, because she thought that would be the end of the sexual encounter — her remark about not wanting to feel “forced” had added a verbal component to the cues she was trying to give him about her discomfort. When she sat down on the floor next to Ansari, who sat on the couch, she thought he might rub her back, or play with her hair — something to calm her down.

Ansari instructed her to turn around. “He sat back and pointed to his penis and motioned for me to go down on him. And I did. I think I just felt really pressured. It was literally the most unexpected thing I thought would happen at that moment because I told him I was uncomfortable.”

Soon, he pulled her back up onto the couch. She would tell her friend via text later that night, “He [made out] with me again and says, ‘Doesn’t look like you hate me.’”

Halfway into the encounter, he led her from the couch to a different part of his apartment. He said he had to show her something. Then he brought her to a large mirror, bent her over and asked her again, “Where do you want me to fuck you? Do you want me to fuck you right here?” He rammed his penis against her ass while he said it, pantomiming intercourse.

“I just remember looking in the mirror and seeing him behind me. He was very much caught up in the moment and I obviously very much wasn’t,” Grace said. “After he bent me over is when I stood up and said no, I don’t think I’m ready to do this, I really don’t think I’m going to do this. And he said, ‘How about we just chill, but this time with our clothes on?’”

They got dressed, sat side by side on the couch they’d already “chilled” on, and he turned on an episode of Seinfeld. She’d never seen it before. She said that’s when the reality of what was going on sank in. “It really hit me that I was violated. I felt really emotional all at once when we sat down there. That that whole experience was actually horrible.”

While the TV played in the background, he kissed her again, stuck his fingers down her throat again, and moved to undo her pants. She turned away. She remembers “feeling in a different mindset at that point.”

“I remember saying, ‘You guys are all the same, you guys are all the fucking same.’” Ansari asked her what she meant. When she turned to answer, she says he met her with “gross, forceful kisses.”

After that last kiss, Grace stood up from the couch, moved back to the kitchen island where she left her phone, and said she would call herself a car. He hugged her and kissed her goodbye, another “aggressive” kiss. When she pulled away, Ansari finally relented and insisted he’d call her the car. “He said, ‘It’s coming, but just tell them your name is Essence,’” she said, a name he has joked about using as a pseudonym in his sitcom.

She teared up in the hallway, outside his place, pressing the down button on the elevator. The Uber was waiting when she left the building. He asked if she was Essence, she said yes, and then she rode back to her Brooklyn apartment. “I cried the whole ride home. At that point I felt violated. That last hour was so out of my hand.”

Ansari has released a statement, which you can read in full here. In it, he acknowledges that they “engaged in sexual activity” but says “by all indications [it] was completely consensual.”

Ok I had some idea for an Eel Girl. Their bubble helmet is made from the same slime/jell they used to make their homes. Eel Girls make Tenergy structures from bubbles that are shaped by columns and beams of varying constantly jell, just as spider make their webs from different types of silk. The slime/jell is vary viscus and forms a skin that feels like a vinyl fabric. Eel Girl can pass though this slime/jell as easy as you can open a door thanks to the texture of their skin and the liquid that leaks from it, but if anything else manages to pierce the skin of the slime/jell finds itself in a very sticky and so thick that anything less dense than steel will hold its position inside.
Basic concept for the headship; Since the Eel Girl is based on bubbles and slowing things down, she has a big bubble motif going on, including her head; In order to breathe air, she actually needs the bubble. The bubble remains on her head even underwater, though, so it's a kind of formality/fashion to keep it on. You can't see her face or anything, as it's completely covered by said bubble. Maybe her eyes, but only if they glow

On this world, he had been accepted for his creations and Aequie had been designed to aid man.

Humans and Aequie working as the witting or unwitting agents of a legendary are fair targets.

#Ignore exposures and focus on injuries — Rather than emphasize the process of finding and eliminating exposure to hazards, use injuries as the focus of attention, measure of success and trigger for change. As much as possible, ignore exposure to hazards that you know exist in your society. Above all, allow periods of low or no injuries to lull you into a false sense of security.
#Encourage leaders to say things they know are either contradictory or impossible to achieve — Manage crime through platitudes that don't match organizational reality. Frequent reference to improved security while ignoring obvious safety issues is perfect for this. Don't notice if your actions fail to be consistent with your words.
#Make all bonus compensation contingent on recordable incident rates — success and opportunity are related, but not on a 1:1 basis. So economic success, especially in small demographic groups, is not necessarily a good indication of actual performance. One of the best ways to dishearten voters at all levels is to design award systems such that voters feel a disconnect. Incorrectly designed incentives will assure that some people get rewarded for minor infractions, and some get punished for real major crimes.
#Ask for input, then don't respond — A broken culture depends on creating as much distance as possible between the goveremnt and its citizens. Make it clear that people's input doesn't matter and that while you want them to provide information, they shouldn't expect you to act on it. Surveys are highly recommended for this.
#Block upward communication about societal issues, especially when the news is bad — As the saying goes, no news is good news. Dysfunctional cultures thrive on secrets and incomplete information. As much as possible, discourage information sharing that might give the people any real sense of societies' problems, especially if it might make you look bad.
#Ignore societal issues until a serious injury happens, then discipline those involved — Addressing societal issues in a timely way might give people the impression that keeping society functioning is a priority. It also misses a valuable opportunity to erode trust through blaming lower level leaders for systems issues they can't control when things do go wrong.
#Use creative classification strategies as an intervention method — Dysfunctional government functioning thrives on moving targets. Reworking facts that don't match the desired state is an imperative. Ideally, you would manage the numbers, then brag about how successful you've been dealing with the issue even though the problem is worse than even, see point 2.
#Put broken governmental policies on the agenda as a number one item, but limit discussion to trivialities — Effectively broken cultures give effective government a place of honor while minimizing its importance in the process. As a general rule, the longer you can spend on trivialized effectiveness issues, the better.

[HA's Note: Where did I crib this from?]
Bad Sex is often understood to be about a lack of consent or encounters when coercion, threats, or manipulation occurred. Let me be clear that a lack of consent, or coercion, threats, or manipulation absolutely make a sexual encounter “bad."

But it is also alarming to this sex therapist that these are the examples of Bad Sex that we already know and understand as bad. It tells me that the bar is set really low and our collective understanding of Sex in general is still at the basic or beginner’s level. Shouldn’t the absence of these be the bare minimum in a sexual encounter?

And I would argue that lack of consent, coercion, threats, or manipulation isn’t Bad Sex; it’s Abusive or Violent Sex. That begs the question: What, then, is Bad Sex?

Example of Bad Sex
As is often the case, when we start to talk about sex a whole bunch of stuff comes up for people, like memories, hopes, fears, desires, and feelings. As a result, it has been difficult for us culturally to separate Abusive or Violent Sex from Bad Sex or to take a more nuanced approach and piece out one type of Bad Sex offense from another; they all get lumped into one category. And that’s particularly problematic for us all because as we contemplate all these different experiences, we become acutely aware of how many of us do not have or have not been taught the intrapersonal and interpersonal skills to keep ourselves sexually safe, set sexual boundaries, and accept others’ sexual boundaries with grace, or communicate, negotiate, or self-soothe. Certainly it makes me think about how all of us, not just children, could benefit from being taught about “tricky people" (the new version of the old and inaccurate “stranger danger” concept) and what to do when we encounter them. Here’s an interesting thought exercise: What are some behavioral traits that a sexually tricky person demonstrates? How good are you at identifying them in the moment? What do you do when you notice someone is a sexually tricky person? Or what gets in the way of asserting your needs with a sexually tricky person?

In the WoMon world public sex is viewed as the real-world view's public nudity, with the same regional variations.

Both people participating in genital-genital and anal sex are considered to be having sex, if you are performing oral or manual stimulation of someone the one being stimulated is considered to be having sex in public but the one doing the stimulation is not.
Technically if there isn't any vulva-to-vulva contact Tribadism doesn't count as sex in public, but people will assume that any Tribadism will involve vulva-to-vulva contact unless they are watching it with attention.

And nudity is viewed as we view going out with your hair in a mess. It's a fashion faux pas, unless your body language says, "That don't make clothes that can make me look better." Nudity by itself isn't considered erotic
* Humanoid face lacking a noticeable mouth (certain actions will cause a gaping, toothy maw to open)
* Lacks ears
* Has a crown resembling a flickering flame
* Eyes have liquid black sclera with red-yellow iris
* Most of the skin is red-yellow, like molten steel, save the hands (up to the elbow) and the legs (up to the thigh), which are black
* Typically wears revealing dresses (most notably a cross top) with metallic jewelry.
* Fairly large breasts, like many, with blackened nipples
* Lacks shoes, and instead has clawed toes (and hands). However, they lack nails, and instead, the fingers are simply lengthened.

?
Position and Overview
Utilizing molten metals and high AOE, the Archon exells in the backrank, although they’re more than capable of dealing high damage up close too. However, they lack much in the way of defense, and their attacks are more suited for AOE, so it's slightly harder to pin down a single target.

Moves
Molten Spear: Rank 1-4
A deadly spear made of molten metal is launched at the opponent. Deals -25% of AR, and has a 33% chance to pin the opponent, preventing them from moving.

Liquid Deluge: Rank 3-4
Fires off a stream of molten metal from above, dealing -65% of AR. Each enemy has a 50% chance of having their speed lowered by 10%.

Sear
Targets two enemies and scalds them with a glob of molten metal. Deals -35% AR, and has a 33% chance of inflicting burn, which damages over time.

Seething Expulsion
Forms bubbling magma under a random number of enemies, which deals -90% AR for two turns. After the two turns, it explodes, dealing -35% AR damage.

Broil
Heats up their inner core, raising their AR by 15% and causing all their abilities to have a 15% to burn targets hit.

Manacle
Sends out a burning manacle that latches onto an enemy, dealing 80% damage, pinning their position, and lowering their speed by 15%.

Reforge
Summons liquid metal to reforge damaged portions of their body, healing themselves for 3-4 health. Also has a 33% to remove debuffs.

Linked Items
Most of the Archon’s items are based around her increasing the damage of her AOE attacks, as well as the severity of her debuffs. A few are more based towards accuracy, however.

Welded Chain Lock
Beautifully crafted chain lock, welded together by extreme heats. Increase damage resistance by 10%, and increases chance of pin by 10%, but decreases damage by 10%.

Molten Speartip
A melted piece of ornate metal, once belonging to a spear. Increases damage by 15%, but decreases accuracy by 5% and pin chance by 5%.

Metal Orb
Intricate orb made of steel. Causes all attacks to have a 10% chance to pin enemies, at the cost of -2 speed.

Gold-Crafted Wings
A pair of wings, forged from solid gold. Increases speed by 2, and dodge chance by 5%, but lowers defense by 10%.

Personality and Taste
Archons are famed for their extremely hard work and talent with forging, causing them to be among the most popular of Aequis seeked out by Tamers. However, one should be careful: Despite this respectable work ethic, they tend to be highly domineering and slightly egotistical, oftentimes looking down at other ideas that are not their own. Luckily, they are not irrational, and when proven wrong, will quickly accept their failings and move on.

I think taming Aequis should be like homosexuality in the 90s, specifically the USA in the 90s. Supported enough that no one dares overtly mistreats you because you have sex with an Aequis but unpopular enough that you stay in the closet about it. One can't legal marry an Aequis. Those that dislike it say it bestiality.

I think just have /nude/ not completely nude She'll still have her Helmet and maybe some accessories, but it should be her undressed model used for the Hscenes.

I think that if she needs protecting wear, she can just create it when needed out of her bubble. I was thinking she just makes a body stocking. ... OMG She's a PowerRanger! :P

helmet
Basic concept for the headship; Since the Eel Girl is based on bubbles and slowing things down, she has a big bubble motif going on, including her head; In order to breathe air, she actually needs the bubble. The bubble remains on her head even underwater, though, so it's a kind of formality/fashion to keep it on. You can't see her face or anything, as it's completely covered by said bubble. Maybe her eyes, but only if they glow
Habitat
Slow-moving streams and rivers, particularly those near settlements
Temperament
Lethargic but incredibly intelligent; Known to despise unclean areas and devote a large amount of their time to cleaning their surrounding areas.

Overview

Because of this behavior, they are often falsely accused of being lazy Aequai, despite their hard work.

appearance
Flirtatious and hotheaded Raunchy Charmers are Action Girls.

While they view themselves as Charmers, Raunchy Charmers lack the subtlety and refinement of true Charmers.

Raunchy Charmers don't connect melee fighting with someone with hostility; in fact, Raunchy Charmers don't see any real different between "<abbr title="To be or become inclined toward or characterized by sexual physical contact.">getting physical</abbr> with someone" and "<abbr title="To be or become inclined toward or characterized by sexual physical contact."><i>getting physical</i></abbr> with someone".

This means that they use range attacks for 'real combat'

Their aggressive, emotional personality leaves them unable to <i>get</i> taboos, leaving Raunchy Charmers to appear naive and gullible when it comes to taboo subjects.

It's not known how much of Raunchy Charmers' insistence that they are true Charmers is from Raunchy Charmers' naivety and how much comes from true Charmers using their charm on the Raunchy variety, since Charmers prefer Raunchy Charmers for bouncers and any other <i>muscle</i> jobs.

Both Raunchy Charmers and true Charmers object to the use of 'true Charmers' "as there is no such thing a false Charmer, one either a Charmer or one isn't". While Raunchy Charmers view the 'raunchy' is the phrase 'Raunchy Charmer' as an adjective, true Charmers view 'Raunchy Charmer' as a compound word.

On this world, he had been accepted for his creations and Aequai had been designed to aid man.

Humans and Aequai working as the witting or unwitting agents of a legendary are fair targets.

Aequis (sing.), Aequai (pl.)
eh kwis (sing.), eh kway (pl.)

An Aequis is a female creature with special powers, an impressive libido, and a natural psychology to submit to a "master." Some were human females who have undergone Aequis and transformed. All Aequai have some sort of special ability, if not looks, that separate them from normal females. Aequai were originally created by Aequis as super-soldiers, sexual partners, and servants. After Sukebei's disappearance, some people found that they could make Aequai loyal to a single person and this knowledge spread. A person who did this was called a Aequis. Aequai now act as a human's friend/slave/partner/whatever. There are two categories of Aequai, Aequis Aequai and Aequis Aequai.

All Aequai, save those with the Longevity enhancement, have a lifespan equal to that of Aequis. Aequai with the Longevity enhancement can live for centuries

Aequai all have strong desires to have sex, to a greater or lesser degree depending on the specific type of Aequai, but these hormones only kick in during their first puberty, which happens around the same time a human girl would undergo maturity.

There are several Aequis of Aequai which describe what abilities they have or what their general attitude is like. These abilities are now used in many things aside from combat, as most technology was destroyed during Sukebei's War. While some hate Aequai, most understand that this is the only way humans will survive in this new, chaotic world.

Life Cycle
Aequai are born as Aequis and during this childhood their feralness is determined by they are feralborn or not.

When a kit reaches sexual maturity, they go through their first puberty and become Aequis

ShojoMai are infertile as far as sexual reproduction goes, being able to bear young only from parthenogenesis.

A ShojoMon who reaches her middle ages (usually a little more than 20 years after first puberty) undergoes a second puberty and becomes a Aequis.
SeijuMai with the Longevity enhancement undergo their first puberty normally, but only undergo their second one when they reach middle age for them, which can take hundreds of years.
Aequis have a slightly decreased libido, are no longer subject to parthenogenesis, take a longer time to go Feral, and are able to bear children via sexual reproduction, with such children being either human males, human females, or Aequai. Such births are generally one child per pregnancy, with normal chances for more than one child.
Staggered 1
A creature who's Hit Point Value minus Subdual Damage negative gains a level of the staggered condition. gains another level of staggered for each for each multiple of Damage Tolerance that total fails below.

Staggered 2
At the end of ever one of their turns the Creature makes a Con Check.

When the creautee makes a Critical Success on a Con Check he removes 1 level of [[Staggered 2]

On a Critical Failure
A staggered creature must make a Con Check to take any action on a Critical Success they subtract their success amount form future Con Checks until they fail on or no longer Staggered
Prone
When a creature falls Prone he has to make an attack skill check and if he fails he provokes an Attack of Opportunity.

Stopped
A Stopped Creature can't make any move actions, He can continue his current Move Action in which he gains Stopped until he stops.

If a Stopped Creature is forced to move he makes at least one Move check for ever Move he travel
Stopped 1
A creature losses a level of Stopped 1 For every 1 consecutive Init without making a move .
Stopped 2
A creature losses a level of Stopped 2 after waiting 1 Init after the end his turns that he has not spent waiting.

Threaten By
A creature has as many levels of Threaten By as he has Threaten By <Attacker> conditions

Threaten By <Attacker>
A creature has a level of Threaten By <Attacker> for each level of Threaten By <Attacker> 1, Threaten By <Attacker> 2 and Threaten By <Attacker> 3

Threaten By <Attacker> 1
A Creature has a level of Threaten By <Attacker> 1 while the Attacker makes an Attack against him
Threaten By <Attacker> 2 & 3
A creature add the number of level of Threaten By <Attacker> 2 and Threaten By <Attacker> 3 to his Skill Checks
If the Attacker is making a Wait or Melee Assist action, the penalty that applies to the target is the highest of the values of that actor's at the start of the target's turn or when the target made any attack skill rolls or accumulated an Attack of Opportunity.

If the Actor made any other action the bonus/penalty that applies to the target is the highest of the value that was ever assign to him by the actor during the target's turn.

you wins is determe by the one who lost that feweest HP not who dies first wich just deermins when negoations end

I've been trying to think of how to make fatigue more valuable to non magic users. Then I found Lands of Adventure.

It has a vitality system that had Energy Points(avg 31.5), Body Points(based on character weight, avg 15.5), and Life Points(avg 10.5). Damage is done to Body Points by default, you can convert half of damage done to you to Damage done to Energy points and once Body points run out your unconscious and Damage is done to Life Points. But critical hits can damage Life Points directly(This too can be half converted to Energy Damage). When you run out of Life Points

The average height in LoA is 69.5" and the avg height for a human in PnP is 66".

The average weight in LoA is 155 pounds. The weight for the Avg human in PnP is 132 pounds.

The average human in YiffieMon has a mass of 59.017 kilograms.

The average human's Hit Points in PnP is (17«Str»+17«Sta»+30«Con»)/4=16 and the average character dies below - RU((30«Con»/20)+1«StaB»)*4=-12.

To keep the Hit Points the same that would be weight in pounds * 4 / 33 for PnP and
mass in kg * 4 /15 for YiffieMon.

The max Hit Points for a human in PnP is (80«Str»+80«Sta»+100«Con»)/4= 65.

The Minimum Mass for a human in YiffieMon is 20.96kg, that would be 5.59 Hit Points.

260*x+59*y=65
and
50*x+20.96*y=12
gives use x=0.2618 and y=-0.052

Now we want the mass to be just multiplied by a positive number and the Char. bonus to by multiplied my a positive number so well at a off set to that. -2.5 gives us approximately 1/5 for x and y. But I want stats to boost HP more than mass.

Desmos Graph

((Str+Sta+Con)*12/53)-1+(Mass*2/19)=HP

Now for some math for the above averages and stuff.

((22«Age»×2)+2«Station»+10«2D10»)/4«# of options to invest them in.» = 14«Initial Increase Factor»

14 Initial Increase Factor buys 56 Characteristic Points

56«CP»/8«# of Abilities to invest them in.» = 7 Increase in Ability

10«2d10»+7«IiA» = 17 avg Ability

20«2d10»*4«Max Multiplier for increasable char.»=80

20«2d10»*5«Max Multiplier for Con»=100
